You want to know more about me? Lovely! Where to begin? It would have been third grade and Odyssey of the Mind where I first realized I wanted to make movies (but I didn't know this yet). Odyssey of the Mind was the coolest thing I ever did as a kid. It was all about creativity, originality, spontaneity and collaboration within a strict time and financial budget.
Sound familiar?
After five years of that, I came into the Poetry Club at my high school, founded by Matt Mahoney in his senior year. We recited found poetry and shared our own, we had writing exercises and everyone encouraged each other to create. It was nothing short of fantastic.
In my freshman year at high school I realized (for real) what I had always wanted to do. I liked acting and theatre, but always felt like it didn't make sense to do all that work for something that wasn't going to last very long. I loved film for its lasting quality. I love its freedom and restrictions alike. I love scraping together materials and talent from many different places, bringing it all together to for that movie magic: making something appear out of thin air. It's not just an expression of story and emotion, but a life event you create to share and relive forever. So for me film just clicked.
I've been making movies for over ten years now, though you probably haven't heard of any of them. I've been honing my film skills, trying something different and new all the time... and I'm only just warming up.
