THE ENDS OF THE EARTH (2002)

In the near future, when the campaign to end terrorism has escalated, two men are drafted and must leave their loved ones to go to war. After the war dramatically disfigures the lives of these two couples, they struggle to return to normal life.
I had an idea for a film about someone struggling with an addiction and how being on drugs was like teetering on the edge of a cliff. Then came September 11th and a world of fear. And I knew we'd go to war and send soldiers to kill and die. My father was in combat in Vietnam, so I drew from his experience and combined all three elements into this dramatic parable.
I filmed in early 2002, but set the film in the then near future (October 04 - March 05) when I was sure the war would swell like a tumor and we'd have reinstate the draft. Well, it's gotten worse for sure. There is actually a line where one character turns to another and says, "I can't believe Bush won again." Weird, huh? I was sure he'd lose, so I thought it'd be funny to project such absurdy, but it seems truth has out-freaked fiction yet again.
